Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. In Washington she was made general correspondent for NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she became the the chief reporter for Congress. In 1992, she was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. She was on the panel in the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal as well as the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled along with Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss issues including and the Iran Contra controversy.
